Top-of-the-Line Security is Our Top Priority: How We Protect Your Accounts

Written by Lake Michigan Credit Union | Oct 31, 2024 1:58:07 PM

You trust us with your money, and we take that trust seriously. While scammers and hackers may try to access your account through illicit means, we have an entire team dedicated to stopping them in their tracks. Here’s an overview of just a few of the things we do to foil fraudsters and keep your savings safe.

Monitoring Suspicious Activity

We get to know our members: it’s a simple strategy, but it’s also one of our most important. By regularly monitoring your account activity, we can identify purchases that don’t match your normal spending pattern, and flag them as potential fraud attempts. In many cases, we’ll follow up with a phone call to confirm whether the transaction is legitimate.

If we can't reach you, we might place a temporary hold on your online activity to make sure it's you and not someone else using your account. If this happens unexpectedly, call us right away to confirm your account activity so you can start using your account again.

If you suspect fraud on your account, or if you have compromised any confidential account information, please notify us immediately at (800) 242-9790.

Multi-Factor Authentication

There are a number of situations where we’ll ask you for your username and password, while also sending a temporary identification code via phone, email, or text message as an additional layer of login security. This includes:

  • When you sign in for the first time.
  • When you sign in on a device we don’t recognize.
  • If your tracking cookie has expired.
  • If you’ve recently changed your password.

Please keep in mind that an LMCU representative will never ask you for this temporary code.

Mobile authenticator

To secure your mobile banking transactions even further, you can opt into our mobile authenticator. The mobile authenticator sends a unique, time-based, one-time passcode to your LMCU mobile app. You can then use this passcode in place of your usual password when logging into LMCU’s Online Banking. Since the authenticator passcode is randomly generated on the spot and expires after a short period, it’s much harder for hackers to crack it.
