Nine stay-at-home improvements

Posted May 7, 2020  |   Topics: Home Financing & Renovation
From a kitchen overhaul to an outdoor upgrade, here are a few ways to turn the stay-at-home order into a stay-at-home opportunity.

Top stay-at-home opportunities:

1› Get organized.

That two-car garage that fits exactly zero cars. That walk-in closet no one’s allowed to open. Now is the time to tackle them once and for all. Find the stuff worth keeping (tip: if you pick it up and say, “I totally forgot we had this!”…you probably don’t need it), purchase new shelves or cubbies online, and start organizing!

2› Upgrade your kitchen.

A lot of the big hardware stores are offering home delivery right now. And since you’re already surfing the internet half the day anyways, you might as well watch some DIY videos, order your supplies online, and start tiling that backsplash or building that walk-in pantry you’ve always dreamed of.

3› Go the extra yard.

Stuck at home doesn’t mean stuck IN your home. Spring is springing, and that makes it the perfect time to trim your bushes, stain your deck, and hang a hammock for when you’re all done.

4›Turn your bathroom into the best room.

Upgrade to new fixtures and faucets, add fun new flooring with a bold tile, or give your vanity new reasons to be vain with fresh paint and a framed mirror.

If you’re thinking about finding a new place to call home, here are some simple ways you can get your house ready to sell.

5› Take up painting.

Cover up bright colors with neutrals to make your home appear brighter and bigger, and cover up imperfections, scrapes, or gouaches to give your home a fresher, cleaner look.

6› Get even more organized.

Help buyers picture themselves in your home by selling unwanted furniture, packing up any personal knickknacks, and putting your winter clothes in storage to make your closet feel bigger.

7› Tackle those lingering repairs.

Remember that thing you said you’d fix just as soon as you had time? Well…now you do. So fix the leaky faucet, repair the siding, clean the gutters, and patch the roof.

8› Lighten up.

Clean windows, change lampshades, increase light bulb wattage, or trim any bushes that cover up your windows. A brighter home will appear bigger, cleaner, and more welcoming.

9› Make a great first impression.

Add curb appeal to your home with a fresh coat of paint to your front porch, new flowers, and a new mailbox.
